Take care of your eyes and lead beautiful life

Vision is one of those wonderful gifts that many of us take for granted. The only time we show concern about our vision is when we think about a blind person who has no vision at all or our own vision begin to fail. Being aware of the importance of protecting your vision can help you to avoid problems with it in the future. We should always remember a Sanskrit saying, "Sarvayindriyanam nayanam pradhanam". It implies that the eye is the most important organ of our body which should not be neglected at any cost. Can any one imagine not being able to see everyday things normally? Imagine, not being able to see kids, see kith and kin, watch TV, take a walk freely, see all of nature's beauties and do day to day activities uninterrupted. Some times eye problems turn very costly to individuals. The need for eye wear, eye surgeries and other needs greatly effect a person or a family's income. Some people are not even able to work because of their eye problems which may badly effect their source of income. So, everyone should take necessary steps to help prevent eye diseases and the problems related with them.It start with following good guidelines for maintaining good eye health.
There are many eye disease that can be prevented or whose progression can be slowed down with proper precautions and healthy eating. Eating a lot of vitamins A,E,C and some Zinc and Selenium help prevent many diseases including those that effect eyes. Certain disease may be effected by other factors such as obesity, diabetics, exposure to ultraviolet light, smoking etc.
In addition to taking nutritious food one should also do simple 'eye care exercises'. Trataka is one such system of exercise to eyes ,which is available in Yoga. It is very simple and easy exercise. The method of doing Trataka is explained below.
  • Make a sign or mark such as a cross or circle on a piece of paper, hang it on a wall in front of your eye at a distance of about two meters opposite to your face. The mark or sign should be at a height of your eyes when you sit.
  • Sit erect by keeping your waist, back, neck and spinal column straight.
  • Gaze the sign or mark without closing your eyes till they start aching.
  • After that, close your eyes and remain in that condition for few seconds.
  • While doing this inhale and exhale slowly and open your eyes slowly after doing this.
  • Gradually increase the timings of the exercise.
This simple exercise will not only improve your eye sight but also keep some eye disease far away from you. Here under some useful eye care tips for computer users.
  • After every 20 to 30 minutes of work look at a distant object and blink several times..This will help in better focusing.
  • Blink frequently. People tend to reduce blink rate while working on computer. This can lead to dry eyes.
  • Rub your palms against each other till they become warm. Cover your eyes with warm palms for about a minute. It make your eyes relax.
  • Splashing water on your face during breaks keep you refreshed. This also help in cooling your eyes.
  • Fix an anti glare screen on to your monitor or use anti glare glasses while working on computers. Position the monitor and lights in such a manner so that the glare from the screen is minimal.
Eyes of the people, who stick to TVs for more than two hours a day are prone to be effected by eye disease. TV should be viewed from a distance equal to 6 (six) times to the TV size. For example, TV size is 20inches, it should be viewed from a distance of 22x6 inches.
In addition to these simple eye care tips, people who go outside most of the day should use protective sunglasses or eye glasses to prevent heavy exposure to ultraviolet light. These above measures help you keep your eyes healthy and make you lead beautiful life.

An openion on Shivaratri

Significance of Shivratri
Festival of Mahashivaratri is the most important festival for the millions of devotees of Lord Shiva. The festival has been accorded lot of significance in Hindu mythology. It says that a devotee who performs sincere worship of Lord Shiva on the auspicious day of Shivratri is absolved of sins and attains moksha.

Significance of Shivaratri in Hinduism
Festival of Mahashivaratri has tremendous significance in Hinduism. According to sacred scriptures, ritual worship of Lord Shiva on Shivratri festival that falls on the 14th day of the dark fortnight in the month of Phalgun pleases Lord Shiva the most. This fact is said to have been declared by Lord Shiva himself, when his consort Parvati asked him as to which ritual performed by his devotees pleases him the most.

Even till date, devotees of Lord Shiva perform the ritual worship of Shivratri with care and devotion. They observe day and nigh fast and give sacred bath to Shiva Linga with honey, milk, water etc. Hindus consider it extremely auspicious to worship Lord Shiva on a Shivaratri as it is believed that worship of Lord Shiva with devotion and sincerity absolves a devotee of past sins. The devotee reaches the abode of Lord Shanker and lives there happily. He is also liberated from the cycle of birth and death and attains moksha or salvation.

Significance of Shivaratri for Women
Mahashivratri Festival is also considered to be an extremely significant festival by women. Married and unmarried women observe fast and perform Shiva Puja with sincerity to appease Goddess Parvati who is also regarded as ‘Gaura’ - one who bestows marital bliss and long and prosperous married life. Unmarried women also pray for a husband like Lord Shiva who is regarded as the ideal husband.
